It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mrs. Dorothy Isabel Cunningham Packwood on 30 September 2015 in her 94th year Of 68 Wellington Slip Road, St. George’s, beloved wife of the late Cyril Outerbridge Packwood and devoted mother of Cheryl Packwood, Mrs. Packwood was the youngest child of Vivian and Florence Catherine Cunningham and was born in Ontario, Canada on 1 February 1922. Mrs. Packwood, holder of a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and a Masters in Library Science both from Hunter College in New York City, was a teacher and librarian in the New York City Public School system until 1985 when she retired to move to Bermuda with her husband, Cyril, where together they would continue his avid work as historian and scholar of Bermuda history. Mrs. Packwood was at heart a prolific artist who worked in many mediums with pieces dating back to the 1930s. She was mesmerized by Bermuda and produced numerous artworks of the Island she called home. She leaves behind her only daughter Cheryl Packwood, son-in-law Kalidou Gadio, three grandsons, Hamadi Gadio, Kebir Cyril Gadio and Harouna Gadio; one niece, Catherine Cunningham; and one nephew, Anthony Scrace; and many extended family and friends both here in Bermuda and across the globe. A graveside service will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Secretary Road on Friday, 9 October 2015 at 5:30 pm.
